Drystone walls, hardy plantings. To see this garden is to understand the labour of love. The cottage is part of a charity, so the work is not just for personal satisfaction, but to provide a foundation stone for Voumard charity. Stone is indeed one of nature’s most important creations in the restoration, walls have been stripped back to expose the stone, handmade stone pillars stand at the entrance to the cottage and stone has been used extensively in the construction of beds and pathways. The plantings are country, hardy and indisputably cottagey. The vegie garden is a treat with stone beds and pathways. Not gardeny, but the pair of leadlight draught horses are a must see.
